This Kit Will Eliminate Your GPS Suction Cup Mount and Improve Your Driving Experience
| |
|
This FlexPod kit comes with everything you need to safely mount a variety of GPS devices in any model of MINI (including the 2011 Refresh and Countryman models).
We include a vehicle specific FlexPod mounting bracket that attaches to the back of the tachometer, making use of the existing threaded holes on the tach. An included, device specific,
module bolts right to the bracket.
The module and bracket can be arranged in a variety of positions, and the device location can be adjusted easily. You might like the GPS just outside the wheel while programming it, but you can still slide it in tight against the tach to view inside the wheel while you drive. |

FlexPod Facts
The entire FlexPod GPS module is made from sturdy, lightweight 6061 aluminum. It features an indestructible anodized ball that easily snaps into the cradle that comes
with your GPS device, which means it can also be removed in a snap. This allows you to retain the functions you like about the suction cup mount, only with improved looks, usability,
and reduced chance of theft.
If you are still using suction cups to hold the navigational devices in your vehicle you are dealing with unnecessary risks. Your devices could be held more securely eliminating damage to the device from falling as well as the distraction of a GPS falling on you while driving. You could also have a better view of both the road and the device than you do when you succumb to the limitations of windshield mounts, minimizing hazardous situations behind the wheel. Vehicle GPS theft can also be mitigated; even when you remove the suction cup and hide everything when the car is parked you are still leaving the telltale circle marks on the window telling everyone that you have a GPS hidden in the car. Putting the GPS back onto the FlexPod is much quicker, more consistent and easier than re-affixing the suction mount all the time | |

New, Included Wiring Option Allows You to Eliminate Power Cord Clutter
| |
|
Each kit now comes with an adapter that gives you a new wiring option when you install your GPS. With the new plug and wire taps you can quickly wire your GPS
permanently to your MINI so that there is less visible wire and your lighter socket plug is free to be used for anything else. The complete install including wiring is a sinch compared
to in-dash nav systems, plus it costs less and allows your GPS to remain portable.

Stupidly expensive, for a start. But what price a mount in the right place? I chose to buy, so that's really not a part of this review.
My problem is that after being assured by email that it would fit my TomTom Go 2505, I found it did not. After a cold morning of skinned knuckles, I triumphantly pressed the cradle onto the mount's ball--only to have it flop like a limp glove. My only recourse now is to either return the unit or try a Garmin ball. Beware TomTom owners--that TomTom radio button is not a sure thing.

Purchased this with high expectations, and after a bit of an installation struggle finally got it installed. 1) The itself bracket is not shaped to the contour of the back cover of the tach, which required me to bend in my vice...be gentle as you can break it. 2) The factory screws on the back of the tach cover were too short and had to be replaced. 3) There were NO INSTRUCTIONS provided. Overall, the bracket is worth about $10 tops to make (I am in the precision manufacturing business), so while it's sturdy, it's terribly over priced. But all this said, I am fairly happy with the outcome... but don't attempt this if you are not pretty handy.

I love this GPS mount, works as advertised and keeps the GPS in a location that I like.
I have a 2013 MINI Cooper S, and the directions for installation left out a few extra screws that needed to be taken out. I also ended up modifying the power socket with longer wires so I could locate the connection in the space between the steering column and kick plate ... plenty of room and I think easier than trying to fit under the shifter area.

Most of all, this thing looks great and is well build. I did have a few minor issues though. The mount was to tightly attached to the bracket that it was nearly impossible to remove so that I would switch it so it can be mounted on the left-hand side. Also, the included screws were a lot harder to screw in than expected. Once it got in place it seems quite solid and looks really good.
I didn't bother to do anything with the electrical taps and additional outlet, as the instructions online didn't seem to be based around a Countryman. I ended up finding a good Y adapter + USB converter at Target which works quite well and doesn't look bad as there's a pretty much unusable tray the pigtails can sit in.

Easy to install and very adjustable. It was easier for me to remove the silver sleeve from the ball receiver and push it back in after the ball receiver is in place, than try to push it together.

I used to mount my Garmin on the large speedo panel, over the 80+ mph range and some idiot lights. Now I have my instrument view again. The one negative is that the Garmin bracket vibrates with road conditions and creates the illusion of blur. Other than that works great and easy to install.

Mount is a great way to display your Garmin Nuvi. My only criticism is the tendency for it to vibrate when driving over pavements with the slightest uneveness. While that does not interfere with reading the maps or the voice directions, it is nevertheless annoying to a perfectionist like me.

This was very easy to install, but I had to really crank down the adjustment bolt to keep the GPS from drooping when I went over bumps. I could never tighten the plastic thumb screw enough by hand, so I switched to the metal screw and used a torx driver to tighten it enough.

The adjustment knob really is not all that. It does not tighten well and the GPS unit tends to rest on the dash.

I installed the mount as directed ( with the nav unit to the right) and it bounced around too much. Moved it to the left down lower, and it seems to be more stable. Other than the flex in the mount over bumps, it does what it is supposed to.
All in all, Well made and if the nav was smaller, it would work great!
