First, a model-specific bracket mounts to the back of the tachometer on your MINI. You take some screws out of the tach, put the bracket in place, and then attach it with the screws supplied in the kit. The bracket can be installed to face right or left. Then, the device specific module attaches to the bracket. The phone clip is on a 3.5 inch arm that articulates, allowing a range of locations on either side of the wheel.

I bought the Universal mount for the 1st gen R53 for my Tmobile G2 smartphone with a case. The scissor mount handled it just fine, leaving all switches and ports available. The ability to move the arm around and to pivot from Portrait to Landscape views is really easy and useful in using maps, navigation apps, and receiving calls hands-free with speakerphone or bluetooth.
I was a little worried about the cost vs performance at first, but I’m totally sold now. Beefy aluminum construction, solid joints, and not a wiggle transmitted to the screen. I’ve looked at tons of mounts from other companies, and no one has a solid unobtrusive setup like this. When leaving the car, the mount tucks down and doesn’t attract attention either.
Definitely a solid 5 stars from me. Nice job guys! When you figure out a way to use with a MB SLK, I’ll be back for another one!

I bought this with the universal scissor mount for my Droid X on my R56. I wanted to be able to use a case and different devices so I opted for the universal instead of the Droid X mount. The product looks great, very sturdy, and well made. and I have gotten several complements from people with suction cup mounts who wish they could get this for their car. I had the Carbon Fiber case for my phone and it was a little too large. You could press it in but was a little too tight for me. Works fine with the soft rubber case or of course caseless.

After suffering through several different suction mount mobile phone holders and doing a lot of research I finally settled on buying this kit with the scissors mount. It was money well spent and works great. Technical support from Craven was excellent. I like this product so much after installing it in my Cooper I immediately ordered for my 2005 BMW X3.

I researched many options for mounting my iphone 3GS and a few forums mentioned the CravenSpeed mount kit. Because it mounts directly to the tach, it's very stable. I love the swivel function, allowing me to change from horizontal to vertical orientation. Installation was a breeze. Very solid quality. I've had the mount for almost a year already. I just ordered the iphone 4 module.
