Rather than toss them in the scrap bin, we offer the parts for sale at a deeply discounted price. In many cases, the location of the blemish prevents it from even being seen once the part is installed. Like all of our products, we still guarantee it to be the correct fit and to work properly and will offer to exchange components should anything need adjustment, or simply set up a free return if you decide that you are not happy with the product. Our normal return policy applies to all scratch and dent products.
Eliminate the "Yo-Yo" with the Detroit Tuned Bypass Valve
Tired of the "yo-yo" feeling in your MINI Cooper S? The Detroit Tuned Bypass Valve (BPV) is a re-engineered OEM valve specifically modified to eliminate the annoying on-again, off-again sensation that plagues many 2002-2006/7 MINI Cooper S models, especially those from 2002-2004. This "yo-yo" effect, where the valve rapidly opens and closes around 2500 RPM, makes it feel like you're constantly tapping the gas, even when you're not.
We've solved this problem by installing a stronger spring in our BPV. This allows it to overcome the vacuum conditions that cause the erratic opening and closing. Unlike the factory valve, which closes at 0" of vacuum, our BPV closes at 6" of vacuum , ensuring smoother, more consistent performance. While MINI attempted to address this with an ECU tweak in 2005-2006 models, it often fell short. Our BPV offers a true, reliable fix.
Stiffer, Quicker, and More Boost
Beyond eliminating the "yo-yo," the Detroit Tuned BPV offers significant performance benefits:
- Quicker Boost Generation: The stiffer return spring leads to faster boost build-up, giving you quicker throttle response and smoother transitions.
- Increased Boost: Most cars see approximately 1 psi more total boost at redline .
- Maximum Boost Retention: We precisely adjust and center the butterfly assembly to ensure it closes fully, maximizing boost.
This makes our BPV perfect for aggressive drivers and racers seeking improved throttle resolution and a smoother power delivery. While a very minor loss in fuel economy is possible, the enhanced driving experience is well worth it.

The Detroit Tuned BPV is designed for a straightforward installation. It comes with detailed instructions and all the necessary hardware . Plus, there's no core charge , so you don't need to return your old valve.
Fitment Note: This bypass valve is only compatible with the first-generation (2002-2006/7) MINI Cooper S models equipped with the Tritec engine.
