Occasionally, we get new parts or returns that have cosmetic blemishes that do not affect the functionality of the part. Rather than toss them in the scrap bin, we offer the parts for sale at a deeply discounted price. In many cases, the location of the blemish prevents it from even being seen once the part is installed. Like all of our products, we still guarantee it to be the correct fit and to work properly and will offer to exchange components should anything need adjustment, or simply set up a free return if you decide that you are not happy with the product. Our normal return policy applies to all scratch and dent products.
Grille Mount Front License Plate Holder
The Platypus Grille Mount is a front license plate bracket that installs directly onto your 4Runner’s grill, preventing you from making the irreversible mistake of drilling mounting holes into your new Toyota. Our method of mounting license plates is reversible, stylish, and completely legal.
Removable
We can all agree that most cars look best without a front license plate at all, but if you’re driving in a state that requires the front plate, we’ve designed our Grille Mount Platypus to be easily installed in a matter of minutes. When you no longer need it, The Platypus can be removed easily, leaving no trace that it was ever there.
TRD Pro
Installation on the TRD Pro is straightforward. We found the best location for our Platypus grille mount is right above the passenger-side fog light, as shown in the graphic. Simply hook the left side of the bracket over the top of the honeycomb's upper horizontal bar, and the right side under the neighboring honeycomb's top horizontal bar.
Hybrid
Installation on Hybrid models is just as easy! Hybrid 4Runners have a rectangular grille shape with the top row being partially covered by a block-off plate up top. We install the Platypus above the passenger-side fog light. Hook the left side of the grille bracket over the top of the middle horizontal bar, and the right side of the bracket around the vertical bar from the left. Following these instructions, your license plate will be securely mounted on your 4Runner.
Non-Hybrid
Installation on Non-Hybrid models can be a little tricky. They share a similar grille style with the Hybrid models, but the top row is completely covered. We install the Platypus just about center between the passenger side fog light and the radar sensor. The left side of the bracket hooks up behind the top row block-off plate, but be aware the bolt and washer may appear crooked on the bracket. This is the tricky part, but as long as it is tightened down snug, your plate will be secure. The right side of the bracket hooks over the top of the middle horizontal bar.
Materials
The backplate is made from 12-Gauge Steel and is the exact size of a standard license plate for maximum protection. The bracket is also made from steel and is backed with a soft rubber pad to protect your grille. Both parts are powdercoated with a textured black finish. We use stainless steel hardware to protect from the elements.

We ship orders every weekday. All orders placed by 2:00 pm PT will ship the same day. You will receive a shipping notification when we print the label for your order. The tracking will not indicate that the order has been shipped until it is picked up and scanned in by the carrier. Orders placed after 2:00 pm PT on Friday will ship on Monday.
