Protecting your new car from the drill!

Navigating the world of new car purchases in states that require front license plates can present a unique challenge for buyers who prefer a clean, unblemished front bumper. Here's how to increase your chances of driving off the lot without a dealer-installed front plate mount:
-
Initial Inquiry: When first contacting dealerships (online or by phone), clearly state your preference not to have the front plate bracket installed. This sets the expectation from the outset. Some dealerships install the OEM mount by default as soon as they receive a car, but a simple request that can help them make a sale is likely to be honored.
-
Test Drive: If test driving a vehicle you intend to buy, reiterate your request to the salesperson before any paperwork is initiated. Dealerships often begin prepping a car for sale (including bracket installation) once there's a strong purchase intent.
-
California Specifics: In California, dealers are legally required to either install the mount or obtain a signed acknowledgment from the buyer that they both refused the installation and are aware of the law requiring a front plate. Often, you can simply bring your new Platypus License Plate Mount with you and they can install it, thereby fulfilling their obligation.
-
Don't Make Assumptions: There are dealerships out there that simply don't install the front plate mount unless requested. It's still important to inform your salesperson of your wish to not have the mount installed, as they may install the mount during the pre-delivery inspection.
-
Saving Yourself Some Time: We do our best to keep our vehicle-specific fitment up to date, but we're often not the first folks to get our hands on the latest models. It's a good idea to browse our Platypus License Plate Mount product page and purchase a kit ahead of time so you aren't scrambling once you've taken delivery of the vehicle. If you can't find fitment for a vehicle you are shopping for, send us an email at support@cravenspeed.com and we would be happy to work with you to develop a tailor-made configuration for your new car. We have a long history of working with customers to develop new fitments for their vehicles and resolving any fitment issues that may arise at our expense.
